New Year holidays to last till 8 January

Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social protection informs.

In accordance with Article 112 of the Labour Code of the Russian Federation, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 January are declared to be New Year holidays. The 7th of January is Christmas Day.

In 2014, non-working days the 4th and the 5th of January fall on a weekend.

In pursuance of the named Article, a non-working day (holiday) falling on a weekend day, is pushed back on the first working day. But this rule does not work for non-working days (holidays) of January. At the same time the Government of the Russian Federation reserves the right to postpone these days till the next year.

The Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation from 28 May 2013 № 444 About Substitute Holidays states the following: non-working days (holidays) falling on  weekend in January are pushed back from the 4th of January, Saturday on the 2nd of May 2014 and from the 5th of January, Sunday on the 13th of June 2014, Friday.

So the 9th of January will be the first working day of year 2014.

The length of working-day on 31 December, a pre-holiday day, will be cut by 1 hour in compliance with Article 95 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

When necessary, the employers may set an individual activity timetable during the New Year holidays in the manner and on the terms of Articles 113 and 153 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.
