Alcohol – an enemy of heals and hapiness

A large new global study has confirmed previous research which has shown that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption. The researchers admit moderate drinking may protect against heart disease but found that the risk of cancer and other diseases outweighs these protections.

The report went on to warn that current drinking habits pose "dire ramifications for future population health”. The greatest proportion of alcohol-related deaths among young people were through self-harm, road injuries or tuberculosis. While those aged over 50 were more likely to die from cancer, especially women.
