Complex relationship between codependency and alcoholism discussed in Social Adaptation Centre in Bugulma

2 July 2018, Monday

Lecture on codependency and alcoholism issues has been given today to clients of the Social Adaptation Centre in Bugulminsky municipal district.

According to Saniya Sabirova, psychologist of the Centre, codependency is a relationship pattern which sees one person putting another’s needs before their own. When codependency and addiction occur together, the two behaviours can reinforce one another. Codependents attach their self-worth to caring for people who struggle with alcohol dependence. They think they are truly helping the addict, when, in fact, they are just enabling their partners to persist in a destructive lifestyle.
