1 779 women were granted First Baby Benefit since January 2018 in Tatarstan

Territorial Social Security Offices throughout the Republic of Tatarstan keep on accepting claims for the First Baby Benefit - social safety net mechanism introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin since 1 January 2018. As of 4 May 2018, 1779 residents of Tatarstan were granted First Baby Benefit.

First Baby Benefit for mothers in Tatarstan amounts to 8 490 rubles per month in current year. The amount of the benefit equals level of the subsistence minimum for child set for the first quarter of 2017 in the Republic of Tatarstan.

The implementation of a new pro-family support programme was announced in the end of 2017. It provides for an allowance for the first child, for families whose income does not exceed 150% of subsistence level. The grant will be paid monthly to the child for 18 months. The size of the benefit depends on the region. The cost of this solution for the federal budget over three years has been estimated at 144.5 billion rubles. According to Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, the benefits will be paid out to around 339,000 families. Moreover the so-called maternity capital programme, which was introduced in 2007, will be extended until 2021.
